My dear friend Jessica Bloch and I were at Beautiful Nails the other day, getting manis and pedis (a rare treat -- it's been years since I've had my nails done). As the pedicurist finished applying the second coat of OPI Cajun Shrimp, the owner of the salon, Phuc Nguyen, asked if I wanted flowers on my toes.
Now, I'm not usually one for embellishment. My idea of nail excitement is finding yet another shade of almost-black. I don't do French manicures. I rarely stray from deep maroon or dark red. But Phuc insisted, and Jess and I shared a skeptical glance across the room.
I was pleasantly surprised as my pedicurist turned dots of polish into pretty white flowers with glittery silver centers. I'm still on the fence about nail art, but I'm pretty pleased with the results.
