Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have an excuse to run a photo of Eddie Vedder alongside a ShopGirl entry.

But Grunge fashion is back. Or at least on its way, according to a recent press release I received from Cotton Inc., in which fashion analyst Erin Burke shares her predictions for back-to-school 2008.

“Historically, fashion trends often mirror the current political and economic outlook,” Burke says. “The current time of political change and economic downturn mirrors the sentiment of the early '90s. Therefore, it makes sense that we are seeing several trends that have the feel of the early '90s Grunge look.”

Eddie Vedder could make anything look good. Including unkempt hair, baggy shirts and lots of plaid. Me? Not so much.
